We are going to depart this morning from our weekly Greetings of Paul devotional, and instead share a prayer from the Valley of Vision.
The Valley of Vision is a collection of prayers or meditations compiled from the works of various Puritan writers. These are not meant to be a replacement for our own prayers, but instead an opportunity to meditate on God’s, and our own character, and remind us of our need for him and his sufficiency in every way.
I pray this morning’s prayer would be a blessing to you as it has been to me.
God All Sufficient
O Lord of Grace,
The world is before me this day,
and I am weak and fearful,
but I look to you for strength;
If I venture forth alone I stumble and fall,
but in the arms of the Beloved I am firm as the eternal hills;
If left to the treachery of my own heart
I will bring shame to your name,
but if I am enlightened, guided and upheld by your Spirit,
I will bring you glory.
Lord, be my arm to support me,
my strength for me to stand,
my light for to see,
my feet to run,
my shield to protect me,
my sword to repel,
my sun to warm me.
Lord, for you to enrich me will not diminish your fullness;
All of your loving kindness is in your Son,
I bring him to you in the arms of faith,
I plead his saving name as the One who died for me.
I plead his blood to pay the debt of my wrongs.
Lord, accept his worthiness for my unworthiness,
his sinlessness for my transgression,
his purity for my uncleanness,
his sincerity for my guile,
his truth for my deceit,
his meekness for my pride,
his constancy for my backslidings,
his love for my enmity,
his fullness for my emptiness,
his faithfulness for my treachery,
his glory for my shame,
his devotedness for my waywardness,
his holy life for my impure ways,
his righteousness for my dead works,
his death for my life.
